Semi-staged comic operetta by Jacques Offenbach.
*** Comments from choir members:
~ …. It was great fun performing on the night when it all came together …. How nice to do something different which included so much variety including a bit of acting …. The picnic and quiz are ongoing favourites too ….
~ …. I like challenges and this measured up as a big one …. it was the most difficult one I have performed ….…. The pace was fast and there were a lot of words to fit in but the more I practised the easier it felt (funny that!) ….
~ …. It made a change to do something different, but feel we needed a little more time to learn it. Everyone did their best, of that I am sure …. It was a bold move for this piece to be selected, because of its complexity and reduced number of singers ….
~ …. Alan asked for solo volunteers for the minor parts …. a bit high for an alto …. but I eventually gave in …. I soon realized that it was not my singing ability that got me the part but my ability to look ridiculous without moaning (a 75-year-old wearing feather wings, I ask you!) ….
~ …. I am looking forward to a lighter summer concert in 2020, where we can make the audience smile, laugh and participate a bit more …. As it turned out the show was great fun and all credit to the “hamming it up” by the major characters …. The summer concert is a chance for the choir to let its hair down and a joyful celebration at the end of a busy choral year.
