About Lutterworth & District Choral Society
Lutterworth and District Choral Society, a registered charity, is an inclusive, energetic, mixed voice choir of around 70 amateur singers who enjoy singing, learning new music and performing in South West Leicestershire, England. From the origins of the society in 1896 to the strength of the choir today, we occupy a robust place in the musical traditions of the district, and are enthusiastically involved with the town’s events and other local organisations. We also have links with several charities. New members are always welcome and the joining process is painless.
We rehearse on Monday evenings in preparation for a season of varied local concerts and performances – generally four main concerts covering a wide repertoire of sacred and secular music. As the season progresses we generally move from performing the great choral works in the autumn and spring to more light-hearted favourites in the summer. From time to time we join together with other societies to perform larger works. In November 2009 we joined forces with Market Harborough Choral Society to perform Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. The choir is available for local functions including weddings and charity performances, and members enjoy a variedsocial calendar.
Fine musical leadership comes from our Musical Director Alan Barraclough. The choir is run by acommitteechaired by Lorna Osborne.Rehearsals ususally take place at the Wycliffe Memorial Methodist Church, Bitteswell Road, Lutterworth LE17 4EZ, opposite Morrison’s supermarket. Most performances take place at St Mary’s Church in Lutterworth.
If you are looking for a choir that is constantly looking forward and shaping itself for a future of increased musical pleasure – both for its members and for its audiences – please come to our concerts - or better still- come andjoin us.
