About Lutterworth & District Choral Society

Lutterworth and District Choral Society, a registered charity, is an inclusive, energetic, mixed voice choir of around 60 amateur singers who enjoy singing together, learning new music and performing in Southwest Leicestershire, England.  From the origins of the society in 1896 to the strength of the choir today, we have maintained a robust place in the musical traditions of the district, been involved with the town’s events and other local organisations. We also have links with several charities.  New members are always welcome, and the joining process is painless.

“Since singing is so good a thing I wish all men would learn to sing.”

a couplet from composer William Byrd

Join us for a varied season of choral music..

We rehearse on Monday evenings in preparation for a season of varied local concerts and performances – generally three main concerts covering a wide repertoire of sacred and secular music. As the season progresses, we generally move from performing the great choral works in the autumn and spring to more light-hearted favourites in the summer.

From time to time, we join together with other societies to perform larger works. In November 2009 we joined forces with Market Harborough Choral Society to perform Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. The choir is available for local functions including weddings and charity performances, while members enjoy a varied social calendar.

The choir is run by a committee chaired by David Mitchell. Weekly rehearsals take place at the Lutterworth Methodist Church, 1 Bitteswell Road, Lutterworth, LE17 4LE.

Regular performances take place at St Mary’s Church in Lutterworth and the Wycliffe Methodist Church.

If you are looking for a choir that is constantly looking forward and shaping itself for a future of increased musical pleasure – both for its members and for its audiences – please come to our concerts – or better still – come and join us. A summer break runs from the July Concert until the first week in September.
